North Wales Astronomy Society

The Society

We are a Society of keen amateur astronomers dedicated to furthering astronomy interests within the local community. Our group welcomes all ages, families, schools and educational groups, complete novices and expert astronomers. We aim to have a relaxed and fun environment where everyone can contribute and feel part of the society. We work to try and share our passion for astronomy be it through outreach, at our society meetings or through workshops and lecture nights. We will do our very best to invite and encourage you to participate at every opportunity.

Society members are willing to help answer your questions and offer assistance whether you are searching for advice on buying your first telescope or, as a seasoned observer wishing to share knowledge.

For those wishing to join us the Annual membership fees are:

Standard membership: £10.00
Senior Citizens and unemployed: £8.00
Juniors: £1.00

Admission for non members: £3.00

You are welcome to attend our meetings without becoming a member.

Our regular observing nights are at 7:30 pm on the second Tuesday in each month at Llanelian Community Centre. When the weather is unfavourable the meeting will still go ahead. The general format of the meeting is a very informal get together. If the sky is clear we will always take the opportunity to start observing.  At the meetings we encourage all members to take part and this is your chance to ask for help and advice. We provide tea, coffee, biscuits and a raffle. In addition to our monthly meetings we also have astronomy lecture nights where guest speakers are invited to the club to give talks. The lecture nights are held throughout the year and will be advertised in advance. The lectures are open to both members and the general public.

We are always seeking ways to improve the society and make it as fulfilling as possible for our members. We are open to suggestions and seek feedback in order to make this happen.
